Old CRP plantings were typically designed
with cool season introduced grasses and
do not provide much for winter cover, food
or nesting

Native Grasses provide dense winter cover,
good food sources and excellent nesting
cover if the proper seeding mixes are used

A thick switch grass stand will provide
excellent winter cover and a viable winter
food source, however it is too thick for
good nesting cover

A diverse planting of native bunch grasses
and wildflowers does provide premium nesting
cover where it lacks the winter cover protection
